36th Bengal Studies

Original papers with significant relevance to the
lives and the environment of peoples of Bengal (viz., those residing
in, originating from, or with roots in the country of Bangladesh,
and the neighboring Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura) were
solicited for submission to the 36th Bengal Studies Conference.
Topics
of Interest:
Topics of interest included, but were not limited
to, the literature, culture, languages, graphic, plastic and performing
arts, geography, ecology, political science, political economy,
sociology, anthropology, history, religions, philosophies, as well
as issues from the realm of applied and social sciences (e.g., engineering,
information technology, medical sciences, etc.) that have relevance
to Bengal.
Instructions
for Authors:
The Bengal Studies Conferences have been forums for
the presentation of new research and work in progress, offering
scholars at every level an opportunity to solicit suggestions and
information from an audience that is exceptionally well-informed
about Bengal across a broad range of disciplines. Work that was
not yet completed was welcomed.
Submissions were encouraged in the form of one-paragraph abstracts
not more than 300 words in length and had to reach the Program Committee
no later the announced deadline, preferably in electronic form,
sent to bsc2003@abac-usa.org.
Papers selected for the program were notified to the submitting
author. Oral presentations at the conference were not to exceed
15 minutes in length, which corresponds generally to about 7 double-spaced
pages. Authors were encouraged to bring copies of longer papers
for distribution to participants and for publication.
